The Student Initiated Outreach Committee (SIOC) is comprised of seven student-run, student-led outreach and access programs (AIR: American Indian Recruitment, HOPE: Higher Opportunity Program for Education, MAPS: Mentors for Academic and Peer Support, PIER: Pacific Islander Education and Retention, SHAPE: Students Heightening Academic Performance through Education, SPACE: Samahang Pilipino Advancing Community Empowerment, and MEChA de UCLA’s Xinachtli), which provide underrepresented high school and community college students with peer advising and tutoring opportunities. Student staff members also host workshops and mentorships and organize college field trips. Some of these projects have their own internship programs.
